The Process: Step 1: A High Resolution Image Any high resolution image can now be made easily and inexpensively into a durable, 3M quality scraper mat. These mats improve the look of your ship or facility, while keeping dirt, sand, oil, water, and grease out of the areas you need to keep clean. All of the custom mats begin like this: you provide us with a high resolution digital image of the artwork you want on your mat, or we scan a patch, sticker, or other high quality image. Then we “clean up” the image, removing discoloration and stray threads. After the image is cleaned and cropped for use, we send it to 3M where it is enhanced and further refined. Step 2: Making a Proof After the image is cleaned and cropped for use, we submit it to 3M, where it is enhanced for use with the machine that prints the logo mats. Their goal is to produce a proof, a digital mock-up, of your mat so you can see it and approve it before it gets made. During this stage, we also add lettering to the mat. For instance, we can add a ship’s motto or an office designation like “Commanding Officer” below a ship’s crest in EXACTLY the same lettering that is on the crest. Step 3: Approval and Order 3M’s Matting Design Center produces a proof of the mat on glossy photo paper for you to approve. Then you sign and order. Its that simple. Custom mats are available in any length from 2’ to 60’, and in widths of 3’, 4’ or 6’. The matting used is the 3M Nomad 6600 matting, a medium to heavy traffic, backed, dual fiber mat.
